Southern California journalist since 1988, when she began as a stringer for the San Francisco-based Philippine News. She rose to overview columnist and correspondent, retiring as PNEWS' chief correspondent during the Covid era, and now serves as Associate Editor of the Philippine Post and a contributor to Balita Media, Inc.'s US Asian Post and Weekend Balita. She received a grant from the Philippine American Women's Writers & Artists and took journalism courses at UCLA. She is also past president of the Philippine Women's University Alumni Association of Southern California and of Kalayaan Incorporated, an officer of the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce Tri-County, and PRO of the Philippine Disaster Relief Organization.

Donnabelle Gatdula-Arevalo

Built her career as a business journalist in the Philippines, rising from News Writer at Headline Newspaper and Business Reporter at the Manila Chronicle to Senior Business Reporter and later Los Angeles Correspondent for The Philippine Star. She served as President of the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) in 2008 and won the EJAP Globe Business Journalism Excellence Award for Best Energy Reporter four times. She is a Lifetime Member of the National Press Club and an Honorary Member of EJAP. In the U.S., she has worked as Producer for The Filipino Channel (TFC), Senior Correspondent-North America for The Filipino Correspondent Network, and contributing writer for the Asian Journal, Philippine Post, and Philippine News.

Meg Ilagan, MBA

Serves as Associate Publisher and a contributor to the Philippine Post, continuing the media legacy she shared with her late husband and PGMG founding chairman, Manny Ilagan. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Kalayaan Incorporated, a Southern California-based Filipino community organization.

Ellen Rodriguez-Swing

A community advocate, civic leader, and journalist dedicated to elevating Filipino American voices and strengthening community engagement. She is the Founder, Inaugural President, and current Board Advisor of the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Cerritos & Gateway Cities, and serves in leadership roles with several 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, including Our Community Foundation, Pangasinan Brotherhood USA, Kalayaan Incorporated, and the University of the Philippines Phi Delta Alpha Sorority U.S. Chapter. She is also the Public Relations Officer for PGMG and a contributing writer for the Philippine Post, Weekend Balita, Asian Journal, Philippine News Today, and Los Cerritos Community News.

Joe T. Cobilla Jr.

A veteran press photographer and member of the Philippine Press Photographers (PPP)-USA, with photo credits in the Asian Journal, Dyaryo Pilipino, Tribune USA, TM Herald, TALIBA, Philippine Times, Inquirer.net.us, and the Philippine Post. Believed to be the only Filipino photographer to have covered the Miss Universe pageant 28 times across 18 countries, he has also photographed the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations in New York and the 1st Asia-Pacific Economic Conference in Seattle. He won first prize in the National Press Club's Elizalde Photo Contest every year from 1979 to 1983.

Nemen L. Cabatuando

His journalism roots trace back to Florentino Torres High School, where he served as both Associate Editor and Sports Editor of Ang Sulu, was named Most Outstanding Campus Journalist by the YMCA, and placed first runner-up in sports writing at the National Secondary School Press Conference. He later became a community organizer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he founded and chaired the Pinoy Badminton Club, Pinoy Basketball Club, and Pinoy Volleyball Club, and currently serves as Vice President for Education of the Computer Society for Filipinos (Comsofil).

Began her journalism journey as Editor-in-Chief of The Generals at Antonio Luna Elementary School, and today serves as Production Supervisor for The Filipino Channel (TFC), Correspondent-North America for The Filipino Correspondent Network (TFCN), and a contributor to the Philippine Post. She was also a community organizer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where she co-founded the Pinoy Badminton Club, Pinoy Basketball Club, and Pinoy Volleyball Club.

Louinn Lota

Spent 18 years, from 1985 to 2003, as a senior reporter and editor in both print and radio broadcast for The Associated Press. She now contributes to Philippine News, Weekend Balita, US Asian Post, and the Philippine Post. She holds a B.A. in Journalism from California State University, Los Angeles, along with an M.Ed. from Loyola Marymount University, a Th.M. from Mount Saint Mary's University, and voice training from Los Angeles Valley College.

Vics Magsaysay

A self-taught fine art nature photographer, painter, sculptor, graphic and furniture designer, writer, and makata (Tagalog poet) whose collection spans more than one hundred thousand images, many of them published in books and magazines. He has held numerous solo exhibitions of his paintings, photographs, and sculptures across the United States and Asia, and holds a doctorate in clinical hypnotherapy reflecting his parallel interest in the mind-body connection. He writes for Weekend Balita, the Philippine Post, and Philippine News, and shares his work with other media outlets including TFCN and on social media.

PGMG to Hold Induction/Gala Night August 8

Official Press Release

On its third year as an active press organization, the Philippine Global Media Group (PGMG) will hold its Induction of Officers and Gala Night on August 8 (Saturday) at 6:00 PM at the Crystal Ballroom of the Sheraton Cerritos Hotel, 12725 Center Court Drive, Cerritos.

This was announced by incoming president Dan Estabillo Nino and Val G. Abelgas, president and board chairman respectively of PGMG, a City of Cerritos-based public benefit 501 C-3 nonprofit corporation.

Nino began his media career in Manila in 1973 and has contributed to Los Cerritos Community News, Philippine News Today, Asian Journal, Balikbayan Magazine, Weekend Balita, and the Philippine Post. He was recently conferred the 2026 TOP Award for outstanding achievement in Journalism.

Val Abelgas, founding president of PGMG, is publisher and editor-in-chief of Philippine Post. A professional journalist for 54 years, he was the first TOP Awardee for Outstanding Achievement in Journalism in 2018 and first FAPCCA Journalist of the Year in 2016.

Other officers to be sworn in by Philippine Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio Angelito S. Cruz include Vice Presidents Lydia V. Solis, Nimfa U. Rueda, and Jannelle So-Perkins; Secretary Donna Gatdula-Arevalo; Treasurer Meg Ilagan; Auditor Rick Gavino; PROs Ellen Rodriguez-Swing and Joe T. Cobilla, Jr.; and 14 board members.

PGMG was founded in November 2023 by Manny Ilagan, Val Abelgas, Lydia Solis and Nimfa Rueda to unite media practitioners and uplift journalistic standards in Southern California, with a vision to expand to the global Filipino diaspora.

Among its accomplishments: the book launch of "California: A Philippine Territory Almost" by Alfred G. Gabot; supporting the renaming of Echo Park Library to Carlos Bulusan Library; covering community events across Southern California; and awarding a scholarship to a college-bound Filipino-American student.
