Supporting the Next Generation

The Manny Ilagan Memorial Scholarship Program was established by the Philippine Global Media Group to honor founding chairman Manny Ilagan's lifelong commitment to journalism, tourism, and community service. The program supports and inspires future generations of journalists and media professionals within the Filipino American community.

Proceeds from PGMG's fundraising activities — including its annual Induction and Gala Night and other events held throughout the year — go directly toward this scholarship program. Every ticket purchased and every donation made helps PGMG carry Manny's legacy forward.

Manny began laying the groundwork for this very cause, continuing his fundraising efforts even through painful chemotherapy sessions until his passing. PGMG pledged to carry that work forward in his honor, and the scholarship program remains central to the organization's mission today.

Who It Supports

Filipino journalism and mass communication students working to build the next generation of storytellers for the Global Filipino Diaspora.

How It's Funded

Through PGMG's Induction and Gala Night ticket proceeds, community fundraising events, and direct donations from generous supporters.

Why It Matters

It preserves Manny Ilagan's legacy of service — helping prepare young Filipinos to carry PGMG's mission forward for generations to come.

Emmanuel “Manny” Ilagan

Emmanuel “Manny” Ilagan was a respected community leader, travel writer and tourism professional who dedicated much of his life to promoting the Philippines and serving the Filipino American community.

He served as Tourism Director under the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, led the Philippine Association of Travel Agents in the Los Angeles area and contributed travel and tourism articles to the Asian Journal. He was also a member of the Press Photographers Association of Los Angeles, Alpha Phi Omega International Collegiate Service Fraternity and the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of California.

In 2023, Manny co-founded the Philippine Global Media Group and served as its founding Chairman of the Board until his passing on July 1, 2024. His wife, Margaret “Meg” Ilagan, continued his legacy by remaining active in PGMG leadership.

To honor Manny’s lifelong commitment to journalism, tourism and community service, PGMG established the Manny Ilagan Memorial Scholarship Program, supporting and inspiring future generations of journalists and media professionals.
